Due to the threat of Coronavirus on the safety of our Trustees, we will be making grants by cheque and post, store cards will only be issued in exceptional cases. Please contact us before submitting an application if a store card is required.
Applications have to be made by a referring organisation e.g. Citizens Advice Bureaux, Children Families & Adult Services, Sure Start Children’s Centres, Street Outreach and other statutory teams for families, health, housing or disability. Others sending in regular applications are Inclusion, Cyrenians, Cambridge Women’s Resources Centre, St Giles Trust, and Wintercomfort, as do some Housing Societies (especially the Cambridge Housing Society) and other charities. We strive to make ourselves known to all such agencies.
Cases should be outside the criteria laid down by other charities ( we will suggest these if they could give additional or more appropriate help). Note that the DWP Emergency/Community Care grants transferred to Cambridgeshire County Council from April 2013, and details can be found at www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/social/welfare-changes/
The Society’s Funds are not large. Our average grant is about £120, and we agonise about going above £150, but this is a guideline not an absolute ceiling. We encourage the use of recycled furniture and goods (through e.g. Cambridge Re-Use, Emmaus, and the British Heart Foundation), not because we don’t want people to have new things, but because we have limited funds and there are often sources of second-hand good quality items.
Our Application Form is here and can be posted to our address but it can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org, There is also an online application form underneath this page – this can be completed and if submitted, will go automatically to the secretary email address.
We normally meet every other Friday, and send out cheques to referring organisations over the weekend.
